    The Aquarian Sadhana is practiced by Kundalini Yoga communities across the world. Doing sadhana in a group develops group consciousness. A group sadhana practice amplifies the impact of the meditation. Yogi Bhajan said that group meditation not only adds to individual effort, but multiplies it.

    Sadhana can be done as a group or individually. The ideal is to join in a group practice AND cultivate your individual practice as well. Yogi Bhajan gave us the Aquarian Sadhana in 1992 to take us through the transition into the Aquarian Age. This sadhana prepares our psyches to excel in the new environments and coming decades.

    The Aquarian Sadhana attunes your gunas, your chakras, and your mind to the change of the Age. We will need intuition, stamina, both physical and mental, self-awareness, and a new depth of spiritual experience that can hold our identity in the face of global changes, relentless competition, information overload, and ecological and environmental challenges.

    Nobody said liberation happens while you sleep!
    The practice of Sadhana is a continuous refinement of the self and it has a natural progression through stages. Sadhana is a process to refine human awareness, burn off the old patterns and clear out the subconscious. Yogi Bhajan calls this refinement, self-crystallization.
    During what are called the “ambrosial hours” (the two and a half hours just before sunrise), when the sun is at a sixty-degree angle to the Earth, the energy you put into your sadhana gets maximum results. Your world is quieter. It’s easier to meditate and concentrate before the hustle and bustle of the day begins.
    Please note, the teacher leads the group (rather than teach the class) with very little explanation.
    You may want to cover your head for Japji and chanting the Aquarian Sadhana mantras.
    The difference being, sadhana is a community spiritual practice in which the leader also participates in the practice. The leader holds the space, calls out the exercises with minimal instruction and keeps the time.
    If you are new to the Aquarian Sadhana make yourself familiar with the mantras. You may even want to print out the more complex ones and bring as an aid to chant.
    Don’t worry about Japji Sahib, it will take a while to learn, just listen and enjoy emerging yourself in its vibration.

    A weekly discussion group in which we will explore spiritual books. It will be guided discussion led by Radka Holisova (MA Yoga Studies, Loyola Marymount University). The next book we will discuss is Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu.
