June 29 – July 6 2019

Join us for an adventure to one of the most beautiful islands in the world – Mallorca, Spain. As well as being the favored holiday destination of Spain’s royal family, Mallorca tops the list of Spain’s best islands, was voted the second best island in Europe and the sixth best in the entire world. Come enjoy the splendor. Spend 8 days and 7 nights in the small coastal village of Deià, on the northwest coast of Mallorca in the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Serra de Tramuntana. One of the most picturesque villages on the island, Deià is set in a ravine cradled at the foot of the Teix Mountain, with views of the Mediterranean below. A bohemian town known for its inspiring beauty and exotic location, Deià has long been a magnet for artists, writers and other creative peoples.

The Location

Set in the Serra de Tramuntana, the location is renowned for its cultural landscape: the near-perfect symbiosis between the actions of humans and nature, over centuries, resulting in a monumental work in which culture, traditions, aesthetics, spirituality and identity are merged with the breathtaking natural scenery. Picturesque villages and magnificent landscapes draw you into history dating back over 1000 years. This area is preserved as an important nature reserve, outstanding in its geology and forest cover and harboring a diversity of plant and animal species, removed from development and urbanization. Immerse yourself in the smells of wild flowers, olive and citrus trees while experiencing the history, culture, and food from this beautiful area as told through our yoga retreat.

The Manor House

Originally part of a 13th century monastery, the Manor House is a two story home set high in the Serra de Tramuntana. With steep cliffs and terraced hillsides overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the property is nestled into an idyllic landscape sheltered by millennia old trees.

This unique family owned home offers a one-of-a-kind experience, accessible via a paved ‘camino’ or narrow road which winds its way up through an ancient olive grove. The manor is comprised of five double bedrooms, three bathrooms, living room and reception hall. All bedrooms on the ground floor lead out to a terrace with an infinity saline/salted pool and sea views – a perfect spot for lounging, sunset drinks, or journal writing as the sound of sheep bells ring from the terraced hills.

The Practice and Props

Over the past few years as we’ve taken our yoga practice internationally, we’ve learned what works well for our retreat participants. We’ve developed a schedule and practice that meets the needs of each attendee, essentially becoming a private session for each person to delve deeper into their own practice. We create a stress free environment for you to let go of everything else so you can give back to yourself.

There are two daily yoga practices taught in the Iyengar Tradition by Michael Ruccolo. Practices are designed to align with the planned activities of the day and the needs of each participant. Beginning at 8:30am, the morning practice lasts approximately 2 hours and offers the necessary openings to awaken the senses and is designed to promote relaxation, strength and well-being. The evening practice, beginning at 6:00pm, utilizes Pranayama and other mind-body modalities, to restore the body from the days activities and adventures in paradise.

To help in this regard, the following props will be needed: 1 mat, 3 blankets 2 blocks, and 2 straps. Everyone will need to have their own props. Efforts are being made to rent or purchase these props from local sources, however, there is no guarantee that our requests can be accommodated.

The Chef

A spacious, fully equipped kitchen provides Birgit, our chef for the week, room to prepare daily brunch and 2 dinners, and the arched pergola area is the perfect place to enjoy our meals. Nature, culture and traditions triumphantly merge in this serene location, creating an ideal setting for a yoga retreat destination.

Getting Around

The property is a thirty minute drive from Palma’s international airport and about a ten minute drive to the village of Deià. We provide transfers to and from the airport, but rental cars are suggested to explore the entire island during your stay. The island is pristine with spectacular beaches, towns and architecture at every turn. It is truly a nature lover’s dream to explore by foot and car. Hiking & sightseeing in the Deià and the northwest area of Mallorca is a must, with small cars being better suited to the roads winding throughout the mountainous Sierra de Tramuntana.
